UX GAME DESIGN

NOTE: The institution validated my certifications and experience as equivalent for year one, production here is part of year two only.

After working for several years in the Software Industry, I realized switching to the game industry isn't easy, specially if you live in a country that is underdeveloped in the industry and there aren't neither educational or professional opportunities. Having studied Computer Science and developed a profile as Visual Artist, I am pursuing to use the best of my skills and education to produce great interactive beautiful products.

I also studied for a Masters in Game Design and Biz in the UK. I learned, tried to produce  and contributed as much as I could  to the local communities, educational institutions, game developer communities on my region, I exhausted all growing paths there. Then, I decided to give this career a real boost by specializing in UX. Certainly, UX is a field I am passionate about and switched to it during 2020 having the chance to improve or redesign products  doing freelancing. I think I will thank for life to Future Games for being awarded the Merit Scholarship 2021 in Skelleftea, this is the opportunity for which I have been working so hard. Because of my several certifications I already have in regards of the field I was also allowed to be placed on the second year of studies.

If you try to remember someone who had a dream and never gave up, that is me, I am pursuing a career in which I can give the best of myself to the world and it wouldn't matter how old, poor or ill I'd feel, I'd still go for it, you only have one life, make the best of it.

BoostNord  - Contest Winner

ROLE

UX Designer

DESCRIPTION

BoostNord was made during a 3 day game jam arranged by Svensk Handel. The mission was to come up with an idea of a game that will increase awareness on how transport of goods in e-commerce affects the environment.

In BoostNord your goal is to deliver packages to your customers in a small town. But you need to balance their happiness and your carbon emission. The team could present a first version of a game where you can deliver packages by planning different routes and choosing between different modes of transportation. Depending on what you choose, you will be able to see how the emission rates are affected by those choices.

I contributed with ideas to add a core-loop of progression as this would feel also like a management game, so that players would see instant reward and how this would help to upgrade and unlock/get more varied transportation and balance between customer satisfaction and CO2 emission. I also spend time selecting the sound experience content for making the game feel more interactive and rewarding. The game was rescoped to an MVP given the time and resource constraints. The game won because judges said the audience could be broad as the game is easier to understand to gamers and non-gamers and it can be replayed many times.

Teddie n Eddie

ROLE

UX Designer and Programmer

DESCRIPTION

A 2.5D Click and Point game set in the dream of a 8 year old child (Eddie) who is just not quite ready to grow up yet and leave the comfort of her childhood behind. Your choices will impact the game, the NPCs and the ending.  The goal of the game is to explore the concept of loneliness  and friendship, Eddie's only friend is Teddie his toy, mom decides to take it to the laundry for his birthday but the mischievous cat Mr. Fluffles decides to make Eddie a joke and tear the note, so both the actual message on the note and Teddie are lost. Eddie is a shy boy and because of this he had made no friends, afraid of rejection, Teddie is his only friend and shelter but at the same time the reason for not opening to real friends. In this journey Eddie needs to overcome his fear to night, to talk to others, in order to save Teddie, collecting pieces of the note to understand the actual message and find out where he is.

My role was to be UX Designer, part of the goal for the assignment was also thinking during implementation if we'd need to store data. This was a requirement for the design of our game, because part of the progression was displayed in the interactive button Note, player would know how many pieces he needed to collect, how many were left and even if reading some of them he could decipher where Teddie was. I contributed also in the implementation of dialogs using Unity Adventure Creator, add visual effects to Notes in the UI to highlight them in the level and writing some scripts for implementing the interactivity of the Note using the APIs from AC to access PlayerPrefs. The entire team worked remotely, so we coordinated in daily calls and using Miro board.
